“Tourbly” wins $20 000 at Google Cloud Developer Challenge 2013

The 2013 edition of the Google Cloud Developer Challenge has just found its laureates. Tourbly was one of the regional winners of the 2013 Google Cloud Developer Challenge.

The a MEST-backed startup aims to do one thing, and do it well. It is an online community where tourists can find and book trustworthy and reliable tour guides to amazing tourist destinations with a focus on Africa.

The startup beat 9 other African applications from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda in the Enterprise/Small Business Solutions, Education, Not-for-Profit category to win $20,000 in cash prize.

With over 400 applications submitted from around the world, 12 projects were announced winners, two from each region including Sub Saharan Africa.

The winning team is made up of 2nd year students Precious Ewusi Nyarko, Samuel Ako and Christian Osei-Bonsu from the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), a technology accelerator programme for aspiring technology entrepreneurs in Africa.
