Working for up to 10 hours on a computer without charging will soon be possible thanks to “Sol”.
The computer is equipped with solar panels that allow it to recharge itself. When charged for 2 hours in ideal conditions, the laptop can run for up to 10 hours. Designed by the Canadian firm WeWi Telecommunications for developing countries, the laptop was made in partnership with Intel.
The laptop will be available with various processor speeds. The manufacturer promises a high quality product despite its affordable price, which has been estimated at $300.
The laptop will be released with the Ubuntu operating system. Sol can connect to WiFi network and it will be possible to add onto it a satellite unit that will allow user to stay connected, no matter where they are.
The manufacturer has announced that the computer will be released soon. Ghana has been the designated country for the solar-powered laptop’s debut.
