The world-renown film director and producer, Spike LEE, is asking you to help fund his next movie through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter. This movie is described as being about “human beings who are addicted to blood” and would require $1.25 million dollars to produce.
While Spike LEE could probably fund the movie himself, the producer grew frustrated with Hollywood’s reluctance towards financing the type of movies he wants to make and instead decided to turn to crowd-funding for a more independent film making experience. He stated, “I’m not hating, just stating the facts. Superheroes, comic books, 3D special EFX […] To the studios it seems like every film must be a home run on a global scale“. LEE does not share the same vision as that of Hollywood, so in order to remain true to his values and beliefs, he prefers to stay out of this system, and instead, rely on the public.
For this campaign, Spike LEE will be accepting donations up to $10,000. Those who donate the largest sum of money will be given the chance to watch a New York Knicks game with Spike LEE himself.
This is not the first cinematographic project submitted on Kickstarter. The actor and director Zac BRAFF successfully raised over $3 million to fund his movie “Wish I Was Here“.
