During an interview with The Indian Express, HP‘s Senior Director of Consumer PCs and Tablets for Asia Pacific, Yam Su YIN, said that there was a high possibility that the firm would re-enter the smartphone market, though she couldn’t give a timetable for it.
It can be argued that HP is joining the party a bit late as competitors such as Samsung, Apple, and HTC have already sustained good market shares but the late-comer promises to differentiate itself from the rest, “being late you have to create a different set of proposition[s]. There are still things that can be done. It’s not late. When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience,” said YIN. Are we to expect a phone running on a new operating system? That is still to be confirmed.
Let’s hope that HP will get it right this time around after its failed launch in the smartphone industry with Palm in 2010.
