All is well for the people at JUMIA, the online store launched by Rocket Internet, the company also known for launching the Hellofood platform in Africa.
To celebrate its first anniversary, the e-commerce site has received one colossal gift from Millicom (the group that owns mobile network provider Tigo). The group whose headquarter is in Luxembourg have invested $35 million in the platform which is seen as the future leader in the sector in Africa.
“This investment follows on from previous backing from JP Morgan and Summit Partners. It represents the biggest investment in an e-commerce; Startup in Nigeria and will allow JUMIA to keep growing fast and serve more customers across Nigeria,” has stated a company representative.
“JUMIA has announced its move to a 90,000 square feet new warehouse in Lagos that will house 500 employees, thus being the biggest e-commerce campus in West Africa,” he has added.
JUMIA has also announced strategic partnerships with Intel, Nokia and Dell which will allow it to have exclusivity on some products thus selling them before any other platform in Nigeria.
