MTN Among the Most Influential Brands in the World

BrandzTop100Milward Brown, the research institute specialized in brands and communications, published on May 21st its annual ranking of the world’s top 100 most influential brands: the BrandZ Top 100-Most Valuable Global Brands 2013.

Only one African brand is featured there. MTN, the South African mobile provide is 79th, thus gaining an additional 9 spots compared to the previous year. This progress is due to the company’s 23% financial value increase, which went from $11,40 billion (5,577 billion FCFA).  has over 200 million subscribers in Africa, in Asia and the Middle East. It is the leader in 70% of the countries in which it is present.

The Milward Brown institute publishes the BrandZ Top 100 annually since 2006. It evaluates the brands based on their financial evolution and the consumer’s opinions.

This year’s ranking is dominated by brands within the ICT sector. Apple, Google and IBM respectively are the top 3, while Microsoft ranks 7th. Samsung, Yahoo, Facebook, Orange, Intel and Cisco are among the technology companies in the list.
